*** WINNER - NORFOLK CARE AWARDS 2014 ***
Located within walking distance of Swaffham town centre, yet benefiting from a setting within acres of beautiful grounds, Holmwood House is an extended Grade II listed building dating back to 1846.
During its conversion to a care home, many of the original features have been retained and it has been sympathetically and tastefully decorated in an elegant fashion, in keeping with its origins. The main house has 10 bedrooms, all of which have fantastic views over the grounds and is currently undergoing some refurbishment work.
Leading from the main house is a purpose built ground floor extension, which consists of 32 bedrooms. All of these rooms have en-suite facilities and are decorated and furnished to a high standard. There are two comfortable lounges, both of which have direct access to an enclosed garden. There is a dining room for those who enjoy mealtimes with others and there are specialist facilities for bathing and showering.
In April 2008, a specialist dementia care suite was added to the centre. The suite has been further enhanced, with a full refurbishment programme taking place in November 2012, and was relaunched as the Woodland Suite by Cllr. Ian Sherwood and children from Swaffham VC Infants & Nurrsery School in November 2012.
With 19 en-suite bedrooms, this unit caters specifically for those with dementia and provides a safe and secure environment in which to promote well being. There is a large lounge with unlimited access to a secure sensory garden, with the residents taking an active role in its development.
"Mother has been a resident of Holmwood House for about 18 months and I visit at least once a week. I am always warmly welcomed by the staff on duty, for whom nothing seems too much trouble. All residents look well cared for, nails trimmed and painted, hair combed and neat etc.
Potentially difficult situations are capably defused by staff in a respectful, gentle manner. All festivals i.e The Queen's Jubliee, May Day, Easter etc. are celebrated with decorations and staff encourage residents to join in. Food is well prepared and looks delicious and varied. The house is always well cleaned and welcoming. Staff make sure that I am kept informed of Mum's condition and needs." - Mr. Lovegrove
"I want to thank you for the care you gave to my recently deceased father, John (Jack) Faherty. I have been inside several care homes in the course of my career as a police officer, and also in connection with relatives of my wife in their later days, and I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality of the care my father received, and the way the home is run. All the staff I met were very pleasant and professional and I could not fault them in any way. I hope I never need full time care, but, if I do, I could not think of a better place to receive it." - Mr. Martin Faherty
"My mum went into Holmwood House in April 2013, she was there for 18 months. It was sudden that she went into Holmwood as she could no longer care for herself. As soon as she went in she fitted in. She was cared for as a family member, she wrote to friends on email, yes email and she was 94 with her own ipad, saying it was like being in a five star hotel. She was treated well by the office staff nurses, carers, cleaners and kitchen staff. She enjoyed all her meals, she was treated with respect and dignity and she was very content and her last few weeks alive she was happy.” - Susan C
